1/18/12

Sometimes I wonder why we keep fighting. Sometimes I want to quit my life and leave it behind. I want to leave some of the things I’ve seen and heard in a very deep grave somewhere, but I know I can’t... and even greater than that, I shouldn’t. I remember then-- I’d been taught that everything happens for a reason, that’s some grander scheme to things. Reality, however, has seemed to prove me otherwise. I see no reason for injustice. I see no reason for great people to be oppressed for the qualities that make them great. I see no reason for corruption.
I hope for justice. I hope for peace. Glimpses of these two ideals may be all I ever see. And even still, I think that might be enough.

  1. Everybody feels like this sometimes. What makes it hard is that you are young enough that you do not have the advantage of years of battle, and the vision of their results, behind you.

Try this: renew your mind. (Sound familiar?) Injustice, corruption, and oppression exist. And, as you said, they exist for a reason. This is the problem. You are looking at the results of the injustice and corruption rather than beyond them.

Examples: When Mr. P had cancer in the midst of living a life of faith rather than during the middle of his most sinful days, it made no sense. We were walking with God. But through his illness, God revealed Himself in dozens of ways that would not have been possible otherwise. In many ways, his illness was one of the best things that happened in our family.

#2: I know a young woman about Jen's age who was molested as a youngster. Nothing is OK about this, as you know. She suffered for many years in lots of ways and the hurt from it led her into sin patterns that made long years of her life miserable. Now, in her early 30's, she begins to understand. Now, years later, she has come to understand God's sovereignty and rescue (yes, rescue) in a way she could not before. She has not only found Christ to be her Savior and Prince, but has begun to minister to other women from a place neither you nor I ever could.

Is God glorified in both of these instances? Absolutely. Is His glorification our purpose? Absolutely.

God is not, I believe, particularly interested in our comfort or fun or even happiness. He is, above all, interested in holiness. If injustice, corruption, or oppression can accomplish holiness, God will not hesitate.

It is all perspective, my dear. Wait. It'll come.

    Love you.
